SCPS Recognized for Alternative Fuel Efforts

Seminole County Public Schools' Transportation Services Department won the 2017 Clean Air Award from MetroPlan Orlando for a commitment to alternative fuel buses.

For the past three years Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) Transportation Services has committed to buying alternative fueled buses.

Recent data shows that by switching to propane buses from diesel, the school district has reduced carbon emissions by 6.4 million pounds. School district personnel cite health benefits to students and employees – as well as the smaller carbon footprint – among reasons for making the switch to the cleaner fuel. In addition to being a leader in this effort, SCPS has provided information on cost comparisons and benefits to other school districts contemplating a switch to alternative fuels.
