Abby Greene Sanchez, a native of rural Davie, Florida, has resided in Central Florida since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, with a minor in History, from Florida State University. Her extensive teaching experience spans over 38 years, primarily in elementary education.
Currently, Abby is serving her tenth year on the Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) School Board, where she has held the positions of Chair and Vice Chair. In 1992, she was honored with the prestigious “Beginner Teacher of the Year” award in Tallahassee. Recently, she received the “2025 Women of the Year” award from the Central Florida Recovery House Foundation for her unwavering commitment to assisting individuals in overcoming addiction.
Abby is married to her husband, Bo, a civil engineer, for 35 years. They have three children who have all graduated from Seminole County Public Schools. Currently, they have three grown children (who also graduated from Florida State University), a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Abby resides in Sweetwater Oaks with her husband, two dogs, and a cat.
As a mother, wife, school board member, and volunteer, Abby has been an active member of the Seminole County community. She has been a long-time member of the PTA/PTSA, serving as the president of Lake Brantley’s PTSA for seven years. Abby has also worked tirelessly for various charitable organizations in Seminole and Orange Counties. She has held positions such as treasurer, cheer coordinator, and coach for Pop Warner programs. Through her efforts, she has raised millions of dollars for cancer research, autism, human trafficking, mental health, homeless families, and she enjoys donating charity baskets and monetary donations to numerous non-profit organizations.
Abby’s unwavering commitment to assisting others extends to her therapy horse, “Gator.” She dedicates her time and resources to caring for “Gator” and riding horses, which provide invaluable support to military veterans (coping with PTSD) and individuals grappling with drug addiction. Abby actively volunteers with various organizations, including serving on the Holocaust Center Board, Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens Board of Trustees, as an Executive Board Member for BASECAMP, supporting local children and families battling cancer, and contributing to Ali’s Hope, raising over one million dollars for mental health support for students. Furthermore, she is a Presidential Alumni for Leadership Seminole Class of 28 and collaborates with the PARCS Foundation to advocate for neuro-diverse playground equipment in Seminole County parks. Additionally, she serves as the Secretary on the Seminole County Cultural Arts Board, co-chairs the Legislative Advocacy Committee for the Florida School Boards Association, and participates in various committees with the Florida School Boards Association. She also serves as the Education Committee Vice Chair for the Ritz Theater/Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center, the Scholarship Vice Chair for the Florida PTSA, and is currently on the legislative and education committees for the League of Women Voters. Furthermore, she served as the Past and Vice Chair of the Central Florida School Board Coalition, overseeing 14 school districts. Abby is a member of the Jewish Chamber of Commerce and the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce. She is a dedicated advocate for the mental well-being of students and staff and has implemented numerous career and vocational programs. Abby initiated a class-action lawsuit against JUUL, one of several vaping companies, in conjunction with Seminole County Public Schools and other counties, to protect students from vaping. The lawsuit resulted in a settlement exceeding $2.4 million. Additionally, Abby played a crucial role in the implementation of the state’s Recess bill, ensuring that all children receive recess. She continues to advocate for the well-being of children, teachers, families, and the community, dedicating her efforts to making a positive impact on our community.
