(SANFORD, FL) Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) will be launching its new Physics Bus at a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, January 21st from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This event will be held at Hamilton Elementary Magnet School of Engineering & Technology located at 1501 E. 8th St., Sanford, FL 32771. This new bus will provide students with physics experiences based on 4th and 5th grade math and science standards.

This bus will be making scheduled stops at SCPS elementary schools while giving students and their families STEM experiences to develop critical math skills.  Funding for the new SCPS Physics Bus came from the gracious donations from the following:  SCPS School Board Member Dr. Tina Calderone, Disney, Physcira, and the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools.

“Bringing physics to students at an early age will help remove the stigma of physics and encourage participation beyond elementary school. Physics is mathematics in action. Students need to experience the joy of math and science in a fun, hands-on, and creative setting.

I believe that students who are empowered to study and appreciate physics will open doors to future opportunities in math and science. The SCPS Physics Bus was created to capture the attention of elementary school students and inspire them to pursue accelerated STEM courses in middle and high school.” – Dr. Walt Griffin, SCPS Superintendent
