State of Florida VPK Information

Thank you for your interest in the VPK Program!

To be eligible to participate in Seminole County Public Schools’ Voluntary Pre-K program your child must be 4 years of age by September 1 of the school year in which he or she would enroll, and you must reside in Seminole County.

Seminole County Public Schools offers both full and half day programs at various locations throughout the district. Three hours of instruction each day are provided by the state at no charge to parents. If you wish for your child to participate in a full day program, a fee is charged dependent upon your household income. Before and after school care is also available at an additional cost.

About the Program
Half day and full day classes are offered at schools throughout the district. You do not have to attend your zoned school for VPK. (Parents are responsible for transportation; there is no bus service for VPK students.) The half day programs are at NO COST to parents. Full day classes and before and after school care are available at an additional cost. SCPS boasts the highest Kindergarten readiness rates of the 5 central Florida school districts.

Enrollment Requirements
Enrollment requirements: Students must be 4 years of age on or before September 1 of the school year for which they are enrolling. You must reside in Seminole county.

 Curriculum and Staff
Each classroom is staffed with a lead facilitator with Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials or higher and a classroom assistant, with no more than 20 students per class. SCPS VPK utilizes a curriculum that emphasizes active learning, focusing on the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child. The program also offers a strong literacy component which promotes early literacy and emergent reading skills.
