Transportation

Providing safe and reliable transportation options for students is of high priority to Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS). View the information below to learn more about the transportation we provide for our SCPS students.

Magnets

Transportation is provided to students living more than two miles from the school. Out-of-zone magnet students meeting the two-mile criteria for transportation may be subject to bus rides up to 90 minutes each way (less than 10% of routes are 90 minutes). Centralized bus stops for out-of-zone magnet students are located within 1.5 miles of a student’s residence.

Transfers

The Type of Transfer determines whether or not transportation is provided. The majority of transfer options including capacity, rising 5th-8th-12th, and Academic Year Completion among others do not provide for transportation.

Diversity incentive transfers options include only one designated school with transportation provided. Like magnet transportation, students meeting the two mile criteria for transportation may be subject to bus rides up to 90 minutes each way (less than 10 percent of routes are 90 minutes). Centralized bus stops for diversity transfer students are located within 1.5 miles of a student’s residence.

Ticket to Ride

Seminole County Public Schools provides transportation as required for students living more than two miles from the zoned school and as an incentive for magnet school students and certain transfer options. Other transfers are granted without transportation provided. There are occasionally empty seats on some of the bus routes. SCPS offers available seats to transfer students who are ineligible for transportation through a program called Ticket to Ride.

Students should not apply for a transfer if they are going to be dependent on Ticket to Ride transportation, as there may not be any available route and/or space. The transportation is subject to availability each year and may not be available in successive years. Families must apply each year.

Transportation Timeline

Transportation routes are developed at the end of July each year. Families are contacted directly by the Transportation Department prior to the beginning of school about bus stop locations and times. After routes are established it may take up to 10 school days to schedule a new stop for a student.
