SCPS School Counselors provide students with preventative and comprehensive direct services through individual, small-group, and whole-group interventions. School counseling is the professional assistance and support provided to a student or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success. It is short-term and based on counseling theories and techniques that are effective in a school setting to promote academic, career, and life skills development. SCPS School Counselors refer families to district mental health counselors, school social workers, or community agencies based on student needs for these resources.
