Library Links

Seminole County Public School students and staff have 24 hour a day/7 day a week/365 days a year access to a number of "ebooks" and other digital resources, some of which are district or state provided, and others accessible from the web, that are in addition to their traditional print instructional materials and library books.

ID and password information is available from school media specialists or technology facilitators.

SCPS Library (Horizon) Search - Seminole County Public Schools Library Catalog. Allows you to search an individual school's library collection or you can choose to search all available SCPS library collections.

 
 EBSCOhost - EBSCO Host is the district resource for periodicals, including professional journals, newspapers, radio transcripts and Advanced Placement Source with more than 5,700 full-text journals and over 300,000 photos, maps and flags designed for the needs of high school students enrolled in various AP courses.  One easy access page for Student Research Center (Middle & High) Tutorial, Kids Search (Middle & Elementary) Tutorial, and Searchasaurus (Elementary) Tutorial.


World Book Online - World book online provides an encyclopedia, dictionary, atlas, and other geography resources with age appropriate articles on topics that change frequently with updates occurring as world events happen.  Tutorials:  World Book Kids, World Book Student, and World Book Advanced.


 TumbleBooks - Tumble Tour- TumbleBooks provides interactive digital ebooks, with corresponding readings of the materials in a variety of languages (if desired).  These interactive books can be used to supplement reading programs and replace older format audio books.


TeachingBooks - Overview - An author resource website that provides access to pre-recorded interviews with popular authors and links to other materials for book studies.  TeachingBooks is a comprehensive site typically used to promote the Sunshine State Young Readers, Florida Teens Read, and the Florida Reading Association children's book award reading incentive programs.

 Florida Electronic Library  Internet resources such as "Ask a Librarian" provided by the Florida Public Library System.

GALE CENGAGE Learning - Power Search Tutorial- These databases are provided free to all districts through the Florida Electronic Library by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, in partnership with the Florida Public Library System.  These databases provide access to subscriptions such as the Gale Virtual Reference Library with a variety of ebooks including the Encyclopedia of Small Business and the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine.


 CultureGrams - Tutorial- CultureGrams provide reference resources on cultures, peoples and World events including Kids, States, World, and Provinces editions and topics frequently used in the Social Studies curriculum.

 Salem History Reference - Provides access to district owned secondary print reference materials. Includes portions of titles from Great Events from History. Within district http://history.salempress.com

  Lexile Framework for Reading - Looking for a Lexile measure on a particular textbook or book title? Try searching the Lexile Book Database which contains English and Spanish fiction and non-fiction titles from many publishers. The titles in the Lexile Book Database are not necessarily recommended books, nor should the books be taken as a suggested district reading list.

   We Give Books is a digital initiative that enables anyone with access to the Internet to put books in the hands of children who don't have them, simply by reading online. There are currently 145 available digital books that can be read online, and are children's picture books, fiction and nonfiction, appropriate for children through age ten.

  Sunshine State Young Reader's Award - A statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8.
  Florida Teens Read - A Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME) Initiative. Florida Teens Read is a list of 15 titles selected by a committee to engage high school students and reflect their interests as well as represent a variety of genres, formats, reading levels, viewpoints, and ethnic and cultural perspectives.

While SCPS cannot order from this site, it is a good reference for locating information about specific titles. Also found here are New York Times Book Reviews.
