SCPS nurses working for wellness

SCPS Nurses Working to Improve
Student Wellness

SCPS has teamed up with United Healthcare in a pilot program in efforts to reduce childhood obesity and improve student wellness. Our School Board Nurses are taking an active role. After attending School Nurse Childhood Obesity Prevention Education (S.C.O.P.E.) provided by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), they are inspired to use strategies they learned to promote wellness and healthy weight.
SCPS nurses were recently awarded over $10, 000 in grants through NASN to aid their schools in such projects such as running clubs, planting gardens, obtaining tennis equipment and even building a running trail.  In addition, family wellness nights are being planned and some have already occurred at various schools.
Healthy eating and physical activity have a positive impact on academic success. School nurses are excited to take part in this program to help achieve healthy life-styles for our students.
