SCPS Celebrates Black History Month

Since 1926, February has marked the beginning of Black History Month. This observance began largely due to the efforts of Harvard Scholar Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Dr. Woodson devoted his life to bring Black History into the mainstream, in order for Blacks to be seen as “a participant rather than as a lay figure in history.” What began as a week has evolved into a four-week-long celebration of African American History – Black History Month.
During February, many classes in Seminole County Public Schools will be involved in educational activities referencing Black History Month.
