The city of Altamonte Springs has developed the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator to encourage Seminole County students to pursue careers in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The key to growing a STEM centered workforce in Seminole County is an educated workforce. Students become engaged in these fields through hands-on, relevant learning opportunities. The Altamonte Springs Science Incubator provides opportunities for students in middle and high schools to engage in a science study program that was developed collaboratively with SCPS teachers. Students engage in projects involving the various ecosystems at Lake Lotus Park and also work with chemists, biologists and engineers at the city’s water reclamation facility and environmental laboratory. Hundreds of middle school students have already had the opportunity to experience a field trip to the facilities and it is hoped that thousands of SCPS students will benefit in the future from the rich learning experiences supported by the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator. The opportunities provided to students are evidence of the rich collaboration between the city of Altamonte Springs and Seminole County Public Schools.
