Joan Ilemsky - Featured Teacher

Joan Ilemsky was born in Bronx, NY but raised in Kissimmee, FL.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from FSU and her Master’s Degree from UCF. She has been married to her husband, Mike for 19 years.  They have a son Andrew who is 13.  In 2006, she joined SCPS as a Social Studies Teacher at Lawton Chiles Middle School.  Joan is a 2013 SCPS Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist and2013 LCMS Teacher of the Year. Joan was instrumental in writing the new curriculum for Civics that is being taught to 7th graders this year.  She is also a judge for the Seminole County History Fair and her students consistently place highly at the State and County National History Day competitions.
