Featured Teacher – Marcyana Mead

Ms. Marcyana Mead is a 5th grade comprehensive E/BD teacher at Hopper Center in Altamonte Springs, FL. Ms. Mead has been teaching at Hopper Center since 2001 and has taught grades 2 through 6. She holds a Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education from the University of Central Florida and is certified in English, Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education. Prior to teaching at Hopper Center, Ms. Mead was involved in a variety of business ventures and taught Exceptional Student Education in Lake County for three years.

Hopper Center is a school designed to address the challenges, and meet the academic, social and emotional needs of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Ms. Mead is a true professional that has a passion for teaching and touches the lives of her students. She consistently provides rigorous and engaging lessons while differentiating her instruction to meet the individual academic needs of her students. She does this all while also addressing the unique and individualized emotional, social, and behavioral needs of her students.

Ms. Mead is a leader and mentor for all of the staff at Hopper Center. Ms. Mead is a clinical educator and serves as a mentor for the Seminole County Public Schools Teacher Induction Program. She has mentored many new teachers over the years. Ms. Mead is also the lead support teacher for the SDCP system. Ms. Mead is also a teacher for the Hospital Homebound program and provides instruction and completes evaluations for home school and virtual school students. In addition to all this, she also provides private tutoring for students in her spare time. Ms. Mead’s colleagues recognized all her contributions and commitment when they selected her to represent Hopper Center as the Teacher of the Year for 2007.

Ms. Mead is a natural teacher. She has a unique ability to work with special needs students and displays a warm and caring demeanor to which students naturally gravitate. She consistently provides a safe, nurturing environment for students, while setting high expectations and working with students to reach their potential. As a result her students put forth a tremendous effort and often achieve things they never before thought possible. Ms. Mead impacts the lives of every student fortunate enough to call her their teacher.
